JOB DESCRIPTION
The pediatrician will be responsible for attending ambulatory and hospitalized patients in the age group from birth to the 14th birthday, including cases of all degrees of complexity, according to approved standards of medicine. Work is performed to meet established medical ethical and legal rules in the field of pediatrics and by observing practices and procedures as required by Medical Services. This embraces the medical standards required in such fields as infectious diseases, cardiology, gastroenterology, central nervous system, hematology, endocrinology and other fields of pediatrics. Supervision is minimal due to the nature of the work involved. The majority of professional problems encountered are solved without reference to the HOD, who is informed of unusual problems or actions taken regarding unusual cases. The pediatrician will also support the neonatal department when required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical activities
Performs the professional duties of a pediatrician
To perform his/her duties in managing patients in the Pediatric Outpatient Clinic
Responsible for assessment and reassessment of patients
Performs general or special examinations and other procedures covering the full scope of the field of pediatrics. Orders laboratory examinations and x-rays, determines diagnosis, prescribes nursing and dietary care as necessary, orders or applies such preventive measures as required.
Provides in-patient care to the newborn and attends newborn deliveries or cesarean section deliveries, if required.
Serves as a specialist in pediatrics providing consultative services to the other Medical Services. Provides technical assistance with pediatric patients.
Ensures optimal documentation and medical handover for patients seen through the department.
Assess risk, report incidents and to participate in Risk Management processes.
Review with senior staff, adverse events, problem incident and complaints and explore all opportunities to improve the quality of care and provide recommendations in regard to risk management
Fulfills professional requirements for continuing maintenance of competence in all aspects of pediatric medicine.
Carry out other assigned duties within the appropriate scope of knowledge, skills and abilities of pediatric of the position
Administrative activities:
Ensures proper record keeping.
Attends committee meetings when so assigned by the Head of department.
Monitors clinical and other established indicators to ensure ongoing quality assurance.
Reviews journals, texts or periodicals in order to update latest techniques, procedures, drugs and therapy.
Involved in development of International level guidelines to standardize and improve quality of service provided.
Follows standard policies and procedures as required by HAAD, JCI, ISO, OSHMS and other regulatory bodies.
Participates in scheduled in-service training programs, CMEs, divisional teaching activities, the regular physicians’ conference or other committees as requested.
Participate in improvement initiates within the department
Handle complaints in an amicable manner when necessary
Foster interdepartmental liaison in order to ensure maintenance of established level of Service Agreements.
Aware of hospital fire policy and emergency procedures.
Participate in a quality assurance program for the pediatric & neonatology services and help develop and monitor indicators
Assist the senior staff in developing best practice guidelines protocols
Documents all care provided and education/information given to patients within their medical health record, as per professional and practice standards / protocols.
Provide and be able to lead effective pediatric resuscitation.
QUALIFICATIONS
QUALIFICATION, LICENSURE, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SPECIAL SKILLS
Post Graduate of approved Medical School with a valid license to practice pediatrics.
At least 3 years as a full-time pediatrician, after residency training.
Must have a thorough knowledge of medical ethics, with particular reference to the obligation to maintain the confidentiality of his work; personality which inspires confidence and trust in his patients; and adhere to Bylaws, Rules and Regulations of the Medical Organization.
Current licensure in country of origin and with HAAD license to practice in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Current NRP and PALS certification.
Observant and detail oriented with Strong analytical skills
Practical skills for examining patients and performing clinical procedures.
Leadership and management skills
Ability to review procedures and implement new models of service delivery to satisfy client and organizational requirements.
Demonstrated commitment to quality outcomes and ability to consult with staff regarding continuous improvement.
Excellent command of oral and written English. Arabic language advantageous/desirable but not essential.
Possess a “can do” and flexible approach.
Ability to demonstrate highly developed communication and organizational skills at all levels.
Ability to provide compassionate care that is respectful to patients’ preferences.
Knowledge of computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.
Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision and in a team within a complex clinical setting.
Demonstrates knowledge and practice of confidentiality policy.
